Along the way, we recommend stopping to visit the Perak Tong, San Poh Tong, and Gua Kok Look Tong Temples.
What to see in Ipoh on your own: No trip to Ipoh is complete without sampling white coffee, the city's specialty. It's so named because of the color it takes on when condensed milk is added, making the coffee very sweet.
Visit Ipoh's three most popular alleys:
Wife Lane (now known as Lorong Hale), Concubine Lane (now known as Lorong Panglima), and Second Concubine Lane (now known as Market Lane).
All are lined with terraced houses that once served as opium dens and brothels, but those days are long gone. Many of the historic facades along the street have now been restored and converted into cafes and shops.
The most famous of these is Concubine Lane; there's also a cute Harry Potter-inspired bar here, Platform 9 1/2.
Among the best things to do in Ipoh is obviously hunting for the most beautiful street art. The streets of the old town are lined with murals by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic, famous for having contributed to the color of many streets in Penang and other cities in Malaysia.
