Service Description

An itinerary that leads to the discovery of the history, lifestyle, and unique character of the Peranakan community, composed of Babas (men) and Nyonyas (women). The day begins with a walk through the Spice Garden at Fort Canning, a historic site that was home to Singapore’s first experimental botanical garden, founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1822. Here, you can observe up close the spices and herbs that made Peranakan cuisine famous. Next, explore the vibrant enclaves of Katong and Joo Chiat, neighborhoods characterized by stunning Peranakan Baroque architecture and rows of colorful traditional shop-houses dating back to the 1920s and 1930s. A visit to an exhibition dedicated to Peranakan culture allows you to admire costumes, embroidery, beads, jewelry, porcelain, furniture, and handcrafted artifacts, offering a fascinating insight into this unique tradition. The day concludes with a tasting of Nyonya specialties, capturing the authentic flavors of this ancient and refined culinary culture.
