MOUNT SANTUBONG CLIMB (FULL DAY)
An entire day immersed in the jungle
Service Description
Mount Santubong is located on the Damai Peninsula, about 35 km north of Kuching, with an approximately 45-minute van transfer from the city. At 810 meters above sea level, the mountain rises as a single peak near flat land close to the sea, allowing you to admire its imposing facade as you approach from the city. Its steep slopes, especially near the summit, can be a bit intimidating. The best time to start the climb is 08:00 from the base station, allowing you to reach the starting point by 17:00. Begin the ascent slowly to enjoy the sounds and sights of the tropical jungle. You will use ropes on the more challenging sections and often need to climb over large, uneven boulders, which can be slippery and moss-covered during the rainy season. The descent from the summit is almost vertical. For those who reach the top, the reward is a panoramic view of Kuching, the surrounding Damai Peninsula, the South China Sea, and the refreshing mountain breeze. For those who prefer a lighter activity, a shorter trek to a mountain stream or waterfall is available, requiring about 2 hours one way for a swim and a picnic. NOTE: Mount Santubong is not suitable for the unfit or those who dislike trekking, slippery rocks, or mud. Wear proper, non-slip shoes, bring at least 2 large bottles of water per person, bananas or fruit, and insect repellent.
